Dental Camps in Nepal December 2024
We know it's sometimes difficult to get to a NHS dentist in UK, but imagine if you lived in Nepal where there was no NHS and qualified dentists only worked in cities and their prices were unaffordable.
Even a trip to the government hospital is impossible if you have fields to look after or children to care for. That's because you'd have to take a bus to the city, queue for a 'number' at the hospital – which may take a couple of days – then hope you can get the treatment done without another night in a hotel.
That's why we see large queues when we put on Dental Camps in villages in the Dang Valley in South West Nepal. People live with long-term toothache and infection when they just need an extraction of one or two really bad teeth.
A team from Crofton are going to Nepal in December 24 to provide Dental camps in various locations in the Dang valley. The team will consist of Dentists associated with Crofton Baptist Church, a local Dental Nurse, helpers and a Nepali Dentist who was supported through his training by donations from Community Health and Education Nepal.
All the team are volunteers and funding their own trip but Community Health and Education Nepal is looking for help to pay for Local Anaesthetic, Needles and medication such as antibiotics and pain killers. We also have to provide gloves and protective equipment, and pay for gas / kerosene for sterilizing instruments as well as hiring a jeep and buying diesel to get us to the remote villages.
